Are fluted fronts hard to keep clean?

Grooves catch dust and splashes more than flat doors, especially at low level near the floor. Lacquered or laminate flutes wipe more easily than open-grain veneer. Many buyers use fluted fronts on the island ends and seating side and keep flat doors on the working side where spills are frequent.

How much overhang can the island top have?

Overhang depends on worktop material, thickness and support. Stone and quartz overhangs usually need hidden steel brackets or a supporting panel. We design support on shop drawings once the worktop specification is known, and your stone supplier should confirm the final overhang for their material.

Can the flutes line up across doors and drawers?

Yes. We set out the flute pattern on drawings so grooves run continuously across door gaps and panels. This needs fixed door widths, so late layout changes can break alignment. Approve the elevations carefully before production starts.

What services does an island need?

Islands with sinks, hobs, dishwashers or sockets need water, drain, power and sometimes extraction from the floor. These must be placed before the floor is finished. Send the island service plan with your enquiry so cut-outs and access panels are built into the cabinets.
