Pocket Sliding Door Buying Guide

A pocket sliding door suits small bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, kitchens and hotel rooms where a swinging door would clash with furniture or fixtures. It is not suitable where the pocket wall must carry plumbing, sockets or heavy wall cabinets, or where sound and fire separation are critical, as pocket doors seal less tightly than hinged doors. Before ordering, confirm wall thickness and build-up, opening height and width, finish, lock type and whether the pocket frame is supplied by us or locally.

Can a pocket door be fitted into an existing wall?

It is possible but usually means opening the wall to install the pocket frame, because the cavity must be clear of studs, pipes and cables. New-build projects find it much easier. Check with your contractor before choosing a pocket door for a renovation.

How private and quiet is a pocket door?

Pocket doors have small gaps around the leaf, so they block sound less than a sealed hinged door. Brush seals and solid-core leaves help. For bathrooms in hotels, many buyers accept this; for meeting rooms or bedrooms needing acoustic control, a hinged door may suit better.

How is the track maintained?

The track is top-hung and accessible through a removable head trim on most systems, allowing roller adjustment or replacement without demolishing the wall. Confirm this access detail on drawings. Soft-close units should be checked during routine maintenance.

Can pocket doors be used for wide openings?

Yes, using bi-parting double leaves that slide into pockets on both sides. Each side needs a pocket as wide as its leaf. Heavier leaves need a track rated for the weight, which we confirm against the leaf build-up.
